Since the coup on February 1, 2021, the situation in Burma has grown very dire. Despite condemnations from the international community and calls to return to democracy, the Burmese junta continues to brutalize its own people. As the regime seeks to legitimize its illegal takeover, it silences its opposition through arbitrary arrests, abductions, forced detainments, torture, sexual violence, and other forms of oppression. The regime continues to target the ethnic minorities as it commits egregious human rights violations, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide throughout the country.
The U.S. Campaign for Burma (USCB) works hard to raise awareness on the human rights abuses, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide of the Burmese junta, as well as advocate and support the ethnic minorities, IDPs, and refugees – essentially anyone and everyone suffering at the hands of the junta. However, we are in need of your help to continue our work. Individual supporters, such as yourself, help organizations like USCB continue our work in supporting the impacted communities in Burma.
What work can USCB do with your support?
1. Share relevant information
Across multiple online platforms, USCB shares important and relevant information about the on-the-ground situation in Burma and the impacted communities that are suffering at the hands of the brutally violent Burmese junta and its military.
2. Advocacy targeting U.S. and international policymakers
USCB advocates U.S. policymakers to advance legislation that not only condemns the Burmese military junta, but also create policies to support the people of Burma. USCB also urges international bodies, such as the UN, ASEAN, and the UN, to take tangible action against the Burmese military and provide the necessary aid and support to the impacted communities in Burma.
3. Mobilize grassroots members
USCB needs the support of grassroots members to reach out to their respective congress members to push for tangible action and show that Burma matters to the American people. Alone, USCB can only do so much. Together, we can do anything.
4. Engage Burmese diaspora
USCB recognizes the collective power of the large Burmese diaspora in the U.S. The experience and perspectives of Burmese Americans is valuable to understanding the current situation in Burma and their united voice can be mobilized to urge policymakers that the on-the-ground situation in Burma matters to the American people.
5. Host educational events
Through online events and programs, USCB aims to educate its grassroots members, international audience, and anyone interested in learning about the on-the-ground situation in Burma and the human rights abuses suffered by the people.
6. Provide aid and support on-the-ground in Burma
USCB has provided humanitarian aid and support to impacted communities in Burma, as well as the rising number of Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) protesters fleeing into neighboring ethnic states for safety.
